BR - Clockwork Prince By Cassandra Clare

Hellooooooooo. I have missed you all. I don't think I've ever been away for so long from my blog. It's been kind of hard, but we finally have internet. And since my cousins are asleep, I thought now was a better time than ever to sneak on :D I come with a review!

Rated: 3 Stars

It's a crazy fast read. When you look at the book as a whole, it can look quite daunting. But seeing how the electricity comes and goes here everyday, I think I managed to finish it fairly quickly.

I was originally going to give it four stars but I found it lacking in some major things.

Let's break it down

Things I like.
Smexytimes. Will' one liners that often made me giggle. I like where the love triangle is heading (for now) HURRAH! Henry and Charlotte's growth as a couple. Tessa showing some of her badass side. Getting to know our beloved Magnus a little bit more. The Crazy fast pace.

Things I didn't like.
Will being pretty much the exact replica of Jace. (Although he's missing something because he's not quite doing it for me like Jace did.) Lack of plot. Shitty villain. No earth shattering secrets being reveled. Lack of butterflies. The huge contrast (description and personality wise) between Will and Jem. The cheesy lines.

“His beauty did not blaze like Will's did in fierce colors and repressed fire, but it had its own muted perfection, the loveliness of snow falling against a silver gray sky.”

Jace constantly being described as beautiful and strong and Jem as fragile. Bleh. Tessa feeling obliged than more out of want when it comes to her choosing. Charlotte wondering why people laugh at Henry, when Henry is actually made out to be a bimbo that is pretty much confused all the time.

Let me explain.

I know it's crap of me, it's unfair. But yes, when you give me a series that has at least three characters that are exact replicas of your previous series, when that series is linked with the new series, when characters from your previous series are in the new, then yes, I am going to have similar expectations, because I expect you to deliver. Frankly I feel a little ripped off. It has some things that the previous series did. It has a Jace, only a stronger contender, a Clary who is a bit more badass and also just happens to be in love with the two boys. But then it has a less awesome villain, who unlike Valentine, does not creep me out and intrigue me at the same time, it has less awesome friends that I have yet to connect with like I did with Alec and Isabelle, and lack of awesome secrets being revealed that aren't making my heart beat like crazy. But there are those smexytimes that CC does write so well, the great fast pace and the entertainment which is, I must admit, always there. So it has some of the old elements, it just also happens to be lacking a whole lot more. So, as you can see, I'm a little puzzled as to where I stand with this series. Do I continue reading it in good faith, or leave it be in knowing that it's really just not as good and nor is it going to be as her previous series. *sighs*

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I finished the book in high spirits. And at the time I was pretty much satisfied with just a enjoyable reading experience. But as always, I found myself pulling things apart and inspecting them much more closely only when writing my review. And I seem to have found more negatives than I had bargained for.

Oh, and guys. This is just between me and you and all, but you do know that deep deep down we already know who she's going to pick in the end, right? Or hey, maybe, just maybe, I'll be pleasantly surprised and discover otherwise when the last book releases. As much as the triangle annoyed me, I'm curious to see if the author proves me wrong. I do so love being proved wrong :)

Quotesquotesquotes!

“They’re not hideous,” said Tessa.
Will blinked at her. “What?”
“Gideon and Gabriel,” said Tessa. “They’re really quite good-looking, not hideous at all.”
“I spoke,” said Will, in sepulchral tones, “of the pitch-black inner depths of their souls.”
Tessa snorted. “And what color do you suppose the inner depths of your soul are, Will Herondale?”
“Mauve,” said Will.”

(omg I LOLed so hard at this poem, oh Will!)

“Demon pox, oh demon pox
Just how is it acquired?
One must go down to the bad part of town
Until one is very tired.
Demon pox, oh demon pox, I had it all along—
Not the pox, you foolish blocks,
I mean this very song—
For I was right, and you were wrong!"

“Well,” Tessa said, sighting along the line of the knife, “you behave as if you dislike me. In fact, you behave as if you dislike us all.”
“I don’t,” Gabriel said. “I just dislike him.” He pointed at Will.
“Dear me,” said Will, and he took another bite of his apple. “Is it because I’m better-looking than you?”

“That demon woman you were lounging with on the divan,” said Will. “Would you call her a friend, or more of a business associate?”
Benedict’s dark eyes hardened. “Insolent puppy—”
“Oh, I’d say she was a friend,” said Tessa. “One doesn’t usually let one’s business associates lick one’s face. Although I could be wrong. What do I know about these things? I’m only a silly woman.”

“I tell myself he's better than he makes himself out to be, but, Tessa, what if he isn't?”
