My thoughts - Say what you must, but I love my love triangles! With the synopsis promising two smexy boys fighting for a girl’s affection and a badass motorcycle gang, I knew I had to give this one a go.
I'm glad I did.
The narrative shifts from Faye, Liz, Jimmy, Lucas and Finn. It's a nice change since due to this we get the opportunity to get into the heads of all our characters. This also leaves plenty of room for picking favourites. Strangely enough though, I'm not sure if I have any. I like them all for different reasons, maybe it's because through seeing things from each of their POV I got the opportunity to know each of them and appreciate them as individuals.
Although quite predictable it was a read that stood out from a few for several reasons. For one; Lucas and Finn actually had some depth to them! We are so used to the MC always thinking about herself/himself that we hardly get to see things from anyone else' POV. That was not the case in this novel, and I really appreciated that. Finn has issues, Lucas has issues and worries, so it's refreshing to see a sensitive side to a guy who can actually hold a conversation and not think about getting the girl 24/7.
I agree with many readers when it comes to Liz overshadowing Faye. I mean Liz is more likable. It’s hard to appreciate a girl who has two guys fawning over her, admitting she has feelings for both in some way, then kicking one the curb anyway which shows she never really gave a shizz about him in the first place, and then decides she is in love with the other, when in order to accomplish something she has to be in love with him anyway. *sigh* Ironic much? I just didn’t find that very believable. They never had time to hold a 5 minute conversation without being interrupted (that annoyed the heck of me, I mean let them make out and be done with it already!) forget falling in love.
Then you have Liz who backs of a guy she likes purely because she holds her best friend to dear, the very guy her bestie in return kicks to the curb anyway. I mean that was rather pointless from both sides then wasn't it? That doesn’t stop the best friend allowing the guy to fawn over her and then turning her back on him anyway. I thought it was unfair on Liz, and yes, although Faye tried to push him towards her direction, she really didn’t try hard enough.
My thoughts up to that point were “what is it gift week?” Take the boy your bestie likes and keep the other one too. Uhhh that's a no no! I guess we have to like Faye in some way right? In order to maintain this triangle another guy is thrown in. Okay but I don't get this, where is the progression in the relationship? the friendship? the whole getting to know each other part? It's kind of like one day a character woke up, and just decided to declare that they were in love.
Apart from that it did have its highlights. The fact that it was a fast read definitely gave it some brownie points. Not to mention eventually as the story progressed, I saw a change in Faye and decided that I liked her. As for Lucas and Finn they are both good guys, both have one girls interest at heart, and both happen to have fallen for her. Finn’ so called reason just weren’t okay with me though.
I completely understood things from Faye POV when she confronted him on it, does he like her ; or who he wishes she were? Its not a small thing you can dismiss, especially when the similarity in Faye’s case is so immense. He has known this girl for what a few weeks? and decides all for a sudden that hey, she means ten times more than the girl he was crazy in love for; for years and years and years, how do you make such a statement overnight. It was things like this that made me frown in confusion.
Thankfully the good overshadowed the things I didn't like so much.
This is hardly just it though, there is a lot more to the story, add some Werewolves, some disappearances, and zombie-like people, not to mention history that is threatening to repeat itself and you have a novel that is pretty interesting as well as engaging. It’s an enjoyable read that will raise some questions, but that’s okay, the questions that have come up in the review never once hindered me whilst reading, so I would definitely recommend this to Werewolf lovers and love- triangle fans alike!
