Interview - Simone Elkeles

OK I've been bad! Remember I mentioned an interview on twitter and was kind of hush hush about it? Well the cover is blown peepz! As you all know by now I'm a big fan of Simone Elkeles and I’ve been trying to grab hold of any piece of her work simply because I know it will be fabulous! As you all know I'm eagerly awaiting Rules of Attraction! I miss my Alex mineminemine *grins* There were so many questions I wanted to ask and she was a complete darling! For any of you fans and my readers out there I tried to ask questions that I felt you would be curious to know the answers to so enjoy!

Since you do it so well I have to ask, what do you believe is the key to writing sizzling intense chemistry between two characters. I try and keep my characters real, especially the dialogue. I find that "just a look" or "just a simple touch" is enough to start intense chemistry between two characters. When those characters actually fall for each other, it should be explosive. I hope I can convey that intense reaction in the words on the page. I love writing new romances between two characters.... especially two characters who are so different.

If you had met Brittany and Alex in your high school years do you think you would connect with them or would they not be your type of people at that stage of your life? Honestly I don't know if I'd give Brittany a chance. I hate to say it, but I might have judged her on her appearance and her ability to push people away. I probably would have chatted to her if she was in one of my classes, but I might have been intimidated by her. If I got to know her, that would be a different story. Then we'd definitely get along. I could definitely see myself being friends with Alex. And Paco! It would be hilarious to hang with those two guys. I'd probably have a crush on Alex.

Warning - leaving Paradise Spoiler

Based on the situation between Caleb and Maggie, when did you decide that it wouldn't actually be Caleb who hurt Maggie? I knew right away Caleb didn't do it. I'm a romance writer. Romance writers say that you have to be careful that your hero or heroine does things that are "heroic" and I couldn't redeem someone who would do that. It’s unforgivable. So I knew immediately he didn't do it... and I gave hints ALL THROUGHOUT the book. in Caleb's mind he never thinks of Maggie as the girl he hit. He'll think "the girl who I went to jail for hitting with my car." When he talks to other people, he will lie though. But I do leave many hints. can you find them?

Warning - Leaving Paradise Spoiler

I found it so sad to see Leah hurting that it wasn't until later I found the reason as to why, what made you decide to make her the perpetrator? I thought it would be MOST heroic for Caleb to go to jail for his twin sister. To go jail for a girlfriend (Kendra) wasn't as heroic as going to jail for a family member.. so I made Leah the one who committed the crime.

Which one of your characters have you connected with the most and why? I connect with all of them. The one I most connect with is Amy Nelson from my How to Ruin series. She's definitely most like me, and has the same ridiculous thoughts that I have!

Has there ever been a time whilst you were writing any of your books that you thought.. I don't think I can do this? Are you kidding me? I always think that.... for every book I've written.

What do you want your readers to take away after reading your books is there a moral or lesson that you aim to implement? I absolutely so not set out to teach people lessons, but I think there are lessons or at least themes in my novels because that's who I am... those themes are a part of my life. Like not judging people because they are a different race or social status. I also like exploring two people from different cultures or social circles falling for each other.

I think every girl is in love with Alex but after reading Rules Of Attraction it seems girls are still in love with Alex or unsure as to who to pick or either have turned Carlos lovers! Although I haven't read Rules of Attractions yet I can't imagine liking anyone more than Alex , so which Fuentes brother do you prefer and why? *grins* I love them both! I love Alex for his integrity and loyalty and honor to his family (and Brittany) but I love Carlos for his attitude and strength and ability to risk it all. I also think Carlos is hilarious, and I love hanging around people who are hilarious... they entertain me! Carlos would definitely entertain me. Alex would take care of me. I'll take them both!

Name me your top 5 crushes
Book crushes or Hollywood crushes? I guess it doesn't matter because I can't really answer this question because there are so many...although I'm married so I'm gong to have to be boring and go with "my husband"

Being the genius behind such adored books I want to ask... to all the girls out there, that are in a situation where they have met or fallen in love with an Alex or a Caleb what would be your advice to them? Give them my number! Just kidding. I was in a relationship with an "Alex"  type and fell head over heels in love with him. He would have died for me, and we definitely had a Romeo and Juliet affair. It was the most amazing experience I'd ever had. Unfortunately it ended after two years and it was truly devastating. I moved on, which was probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I say to everyone to give it your all in a relationship and hope it works out, but if the relationship isn't healthy force yourself to move on and keep your identity. I hope you do find your Alex or Carlos... I'm a hopeless romantic!

Oh god doesn't her Alex type sound just gorgeous and exciting? *dies with envy* Thank you so much for joining me Simone it was a blast!=)

So for those of you who haven't seen the Rules of Attraction trailer I thought I would do the honours! and let me say for the record the peepz playing Alex and Carlos in the trailer are just swoon worthy!
