My Thoughts - Aura can see ghosts since she was born after the shift. You would think this would be something that she completely welcomes, but it's pretty obvious from the very first page, that if anything she finds her ability rather annoying.
There are a lot of likable characters in this book; Mickey - Logan 's brother, and his other younger brother Dylan who Aura tends to treat as a younger brother. Aura and Logan are a pretty serious couple and are very affectionate with each other. They even seem to know each others family pretty well. They have also grown up together which has only increased their bond.
The book deals with the more specific things that come with being in a serious relationship in which you are committed. Being; Making wise choices, maintaining a healthy relationship, understanding each other, and of course the issue of sex.
It never comes to that, Logan 's careless choices lead to the whole night being a disaster. Not only does he do something completely foolish, he lets his family and Aura down, something which haunts him throughout the book. When he dies he can not touch her, hold her, or save her. This realisation frustrates them both. Logan wants to stay around although he knows there is always the risk of him turning Shade, and becoming dangerous if his bitterness overtakes him.
It's through this period that Aura meets Zachary. He is tangible, he can hold her, and reassure her. She has found herself starting to gravitate towards him. Through all of this her best friend Megan is always there for her. She was someone I really warmed towards. Megan is a great best friend and always has Aura's best interest at heart.
It's sad to see Logan struggling, but most of all wanting to be with Aura but knowing there isn't much he can do about it.
He's helpless, and can only watch as Aura increasingly starts to bond with Zachary with whom she unravels some shocking secrets along the way.
At times I couldn't help but be annoyed with Aura since I felt she played them both and didn't consider Logan's feelings much. Although I liked her I didn't always agree with the decisions she made because I felt she was unfair to Logan at times.
It's now that she must make the choice, is she willing to cling on to the dead, or will she turn away from her past and embrace her future? Both Zachary and Logan represent these parts of her, but it is Aura who must make the choice.
The ending is bitter sweet. To be honest I didn't really connect with Zachary or Aura and even Logan for a while, but as I read along, and began to understand them more I did in particular bond with Logan . I found it unfortunate how due to one foolish mistake it cost him everything. How hard must it be to not be able to touch the one you love? For Aura she has the choice of moving on, but how does Logan move on? I really felt for him, and by the end of it I felt myself become really attached to the story. By the sounds of it, it seems like there may be a sequel, one I will definitely be looking forward to!
"Aura." His whisper seemed to be right at my ear. "Do you still love me?"It was the wrong question, because boy or ghost or shade, there would always be one answer."Yes"
